AstraZeneca - účinnost u starších

The COVID-19 vaccine jointly developed by AstraZeneca plc and Oxford University is considered to be only 8% effective in the population older than 65, the Handelsblatt reported on Monday citing sources within the German government. The company rejected the report later in the day.

The European Medicines Agency is expected to decide on the emergency approval of the vaccine by the end of the month. Unlike Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna, which have shown around 95% effectiveness against the COVID-19, AstraZeneca utilized different methods of production which brought the effectiveness range to between 62% and 90%.

According to the newspaper, the latest news could make a significant setback on Germany's vaccination strategy. The outlook is further worsened by the fact that AstraZeneca announced delays in vaccine deliveries. Originally, the government expected to receive 3 million vaccine doses next month.
